It is ages since I wrote the last update so I thought I would get it done now otherwise the year would be over.
It has been as ever a busy year, trying to fit everything in between being ill is trying at times but I manage.
Well this year as so far been a good one again, met some special people and more importantly learnt a lot more about some friends.
I have had my portrait painted by David Fisher, when my son and Jane's daughter say it they were amazed, this is a 6 foot image of me, to me it's the ultimate accolade, and he's painted me how I see me with no prompting from me. David and Brenda are 2 of the friends I've learnt more about, they enhance my life and I am truly grateful, I wrote a short story about them called The Hole in the Wall, for Midsomer Norton Historical society and came third, I received the first medal I have ever won, I wear it regularly.
Jane and I were invited to see Glastonbury Festival, we were picked up on Sunday morning in Tesco's Shepton Mallet car park and 15minuttes later we were looking over the site. It was a beautiful sunny day, we had back stage passes and our host Richard Roberts (who has made a brilliant film on the festival) tells me to ring him when I have had enough. We see the main stage the second stage and the Jazz stage, plus numerous other happenings. It was an unbelievable experience; I can see why people go back year after year. Anyhow I ran out of steam and about 3.00 we were picked up with Kelly Osborne and took back to Tesco's. It happened to be Jane's birthday so Jane is sat in the back of the Land Rover with Kelly and her party singing happy birthday. I got brownie points for that.
I have a piece of installation art called "discontinued lines" which is 36 tin cans in a dump basket (there are some pictures in the gallery), so far this has been accepted in the Bath Open and the Atkinson gallery at Millfield school, also in the Old Bakery Artists at Rook lane arts, Frome.
Jeff Body and I did a talk for Frome Festival at the Assembly Rooms in Frome on the Rock Flock (the sheep on Cannards Grave roundabout), we were on from 6pm till 7, Paul Merton was on afterwards next door from 7.30, I thought I knew Jeff quite well but I learnt a lot that night, he was awesome, well done Jeff. We are thinking of creating a website based around the sheep, any one with any ideas please e-mail me.
I also did Writers in Residence for Frome Festival, I sat in this fabulous shoe shop called Krussh, I have to physically restrain Jane from buying when we go in. I had to write a story or poem based around a theme, I had a great time and will do it again, my writing was crap but it was good fun, I misbehaved all morning.
I am working on an exhibition of my own for next year called Life, our most precious gift, it will be at Rook Lane Arts from the 11th of April till the 25th April 2009, it will be my last exhibition on my own, I will have some of my friends exhibiting with me, I am looking for sponsors. I am trying to make it a bit different.
I was reading this article the other day, the author believed that most good ideas came to people when thy were horizontal, I believe this to be true as I always seem to get them when I'm in bed and quite often early in the morning.
Its always said that advice is easily given but harder to take, I was advising a young man the other day on a career and I thought I'd share my advice with you, he asked me what job I would do if I could start again, my reply was politician, this seemed to surprise him so I had to list why, first a good salary. Then the bit I find most perplexing is that you can promise anything you want to the electorate and then forget them, this sadly applies to all parties.
You can buy a second home and charge the mortgage to expenses, you can employ any member of your family ( can be deceased), you get long holidays (if your smart you won't pay for them). You can claim for food on your expenses, new kitchen, the list is endless. The pension is worth having and then the private sector will want to take you on as an advisor, this will enhance your pension even further.
